The 2026 Huilongguan International Cultural and Art Festival hosted its first New Zealand-themed cultural event. The Auckland International Art Space Museum was invited to participate and presented the “Flying Kiwi” New Zealand Contemporary Art Exhibition, featuring 26 works by ten New Zealand artists. The Auckland International Art Space Museum was invited to participate, bringing contemporary New Zealand art to the Chinese and international audiences. This marked the return of the “Flying Kiwi” New Zealand contemporary art exhibition to Chinese audiences, following its previous exhibitions in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, Xi’an, and Wuxi, continuing the artistic exchange between New Zealand and China.

The event also featured a New Zealand product market and a New Zealand food workshop, where participants could sample New Zealand’s Floyd coffee, fish and chips from West West, and New Zealand wine, experience the New Zealand lifestyle, and participate in international cultural exchange.

The event also featured a spectacular Sino-New Zealand cultural performance, where artists and culture enthusiasts from both countries shared the stage. New Zealand’s distinctive music and dances complemented traditional Chinese arts, conveying emotions through song and making friends through dance, continuously pushing the atmosphere to a climax and allowing the guests to more directly experience the fusion and resonance of the two cultures on the same stage.
From the spirit of the kiwi in the exhibition hall to a cup of coffee and a serving of fish and chips at the market, this event allowed more Chinese audiences to get to know New Zealand and approach New Zealand contemporary art in a more three-dimensional and vivid way. In the future, the Auckland International Art Space Museum will continue to uphold its original intention of “empowering international exchange through art,” and join hands with more international art institutions and cultural partners to promote in-depth dialogue and long-term cooperation between New Zealand and China in the areas of art, culture, and lifestyle.
