“The Soaring Kiwi” Art Exhibition

“Flying Kiwi” is a contemporary New Zealand art exhibition brand of the Auckland International Art Space Museum, promoting contemporary New Zealand art in China. The exhibition has been held in cities such as Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, Xi’an, Beijing, and Wuxi, and has carried out in-depth cooperation with cultural and artistic institutions in various places.

The kiwi, also known as the Japanese kiwi, is the national bird of New Zealand, representing a sacred and rare species. Although it cannot fly, it runs forward at an astonishing speed—a perfect reflection of the New Zealand spirit: resilient, courageous, and always moving forward, undaunted by difficulties. Therefore, “flying” is not about wings, but about determination. New Zealand is a magical land located in the vast South Pacific Ocean, rich in resources and boasting a vibrant culture and arts. As the first developed Western country to establish friendly cooperative relations with China, Sino-New Zealand friendship has always been at the forefront. High-level visits between the leaders of both countries have continuously enhanced mutual understanding and trust, and promoted friendly exchanges and friendship between the two peoples.

The organizers hope that “The Flying Kiwi” will introduce more Chinese audiences to New Zealand, a country full of peace and beauty, and promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in culture, art, and commerce, realizing the beautiful vision of empowering international exchange through art. This exhibition brings together 10 artists from different cultures and ethnicities, presenting 26 contemporary artworks. The exhibition responds to the tension between tradition and modernity, nature and city, individual experience and social reality from multiple perspectives—it is both a scene from the New Zealand art scene and a slice of self-awareness for a young nation.

In 2026, “Flying Kiwis – New Zealand Contemporary Art Exhibition” will be held at the Beijing Huitian International Cultural and Art Center. We hope to connect New Zealand and China through art, transcending geographical and temporal distances, and allowing more people to understand the quiet yet steadfast beliefs of this young nation – coexistence, creation, and cooperation.

We sincerely welcome international art exchange organizations and urban cultural and tourism units to discuss cooperation.
